AD pleased with local councils’ 2012 electoral result

Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party expressed its satisfaction with the result obtained in the local council elections. AD presented candidates in 10 localities, and their percentage of first preference votes was as follows: Hal Qormi (0.88%), H’Attard (7.1%), Hal Balzan (4.0%), Gzira (2.6%), Mosta (2.4%), Munxar (8.0%), St. Julian’s(4.1%), St. Paul’s Bay (2.4%), Sliema (7.8%) and Swieqi (5%). The
overall percentage of first preference votes amounts to 4.4%.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, said: “We have elected two green councillors, Ralph Cassar in Attard and myself in Sliema; and both of us for the third respective time. AD therefore experienced an increase in seats from the previous one seat, and also experienced an increase in seats compared to the last round of local elections (2009) when we won no seats.”

“AD’s overall percentage of 4.4% in the 10 localities in which it contested confirms that the Green vote cannot be dismissed and can actually be of crucial significance at a national level”.
